The Malaysian Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences (MJMHS) was established in January 2005 as an initiative of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). Published by UPM Press and managed by the faculty, MJMHS has grown to become one of the leading medical journals in Malaysia, which Scopus-indexed since 2007.

The journal’s focus is on the results of original scientific research and development, emerging issues, and policy analyses pertaining to medical, biomedical, and clinical sciences. MJMHS aims to provide a platform for researchers to publish their work and share their findings with the academic community. Over the years, MJMHS has been managed by a few dedicated and skilled Editor-in-Chiefs, including Prof. Dr. Azhar Md Zain, Prof. Datuk Dr. Lekhraj Rampal, Prof. Emeritus Dato’ Dr. Abdul Jalil Nordin and Prof. Dr. Normala Ibrahim. Each Editor-in-Chief has contributed to the growth and development of the journal, shaping its focus and expanding its reach.

In its early days, MJMHS was published twice a year, in January and June, with eight articles in the inaugural issue. The submission process was manual, and the journal was published exclusively in hard copies. Today, MJMHS has grown significantly and has its own office at the Faculty Research Support Unit (FRSU). The journal now publishes six issues per year in January, March, May, July, September, and November, offering readers a more extensive range of articles to choose from. In addition to research articles, the journal also publishes conference abstracts/proceedings, supplementary and special issues.

In keeping up with the changing times, MJMHS has also transitioned from manual submission to having both manual and online submission processes through the MJMHS website. The journal has also expanded its publication offerings to include conference abstracts/proceedings, supplementary, and special issues. Despite the many changes that have taken place since its inception, MJMHS has remained committed to its core mission of promoting high-quality research and scholarship in the medical and health sciences. The journal has also transitioned from publishing in hard copies only to soft copies and hard copies, making the publication more accessible to a wider audience.
